The Story
Zen drums aren't really drums in the traditional sense. They're meditative sound objects — toms hit with soft mallets that ring like bells, cymbals bowed with sticks that create singing overtones, and kick drums played so softly they become a pulse you feel rather than hear. In shoegaze, post-rock, and cinematic ambient music, the drums don't mark time. They mark space. Every hit opens up a silence. Every decay is as musical as the attack.
This kit was played with contemplative restraint. The patterns are spacious and unhurried — single hits separated by seconds of silence, cymbal swells that build over entire phrases, and rolling tom patterns that feel like waves breaking in slow motion. The dynamics barely rise above a whisper for long stretches before building into moments of cathartic release. These drums meditate.
Recorded with the room as the primary character. Ambient mics placed at a distance capture the full natural decay of every hit in the space — some sustain for fifteen seconds or more. The toms are tuned low and resonant with all the damping removed. The cymbals are captured for their overtones and sustain, not their attack. The kick is felt as a subsonic pulse. Close mics are present for definition when needed, but the room is the star. These drums were designed to be felt before they're heard.

Do I need Kontakt to use this library?
No. Kontakt is completely optional.
All libraries include standard WAV files that work in any DAW without additional software.
If a Kontakt Engine version is included, it requires the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt (v5.5 or higher) and will not run in the free Kontakt Player.
Will this work in my DAW?
Yes. All We Sound Human products work in every major DAW using standard audio files.
