The Delta blues sessions are stripped to the essentials — acoustic guitar, harmonica, and the human voice. Raw, unvarnished, and powerful in their simplicity. Electric blues plugs in and turns up — overdriven guitar through a tube amp, a rhythm section that pushes the shuffle harder, and the increased dynamic range that amplification makes possible. Every session was recorded with minimal processing to preserve the raw, human quality that makes the blues work. The acoustic guitars have the natural ring and resonance of real wood. The electric guitars were tracked through tube amps with the volume up — the distortion is in the speaker, not a pedal. The harmonica has the reedy, vocal quality of a player breathing the notes.
