The Story
Soul music reinvented itself in the late '90s. D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, and Lauryn Hill took the warmth of classic Motown and Stax, stripped away the big production, and rebuilt it with jazz harmony, hip-hop rhythm, and a rawness that the original era didn't allow. Then Amy Winehouse brought that sensibility to pop radio. Adele turned it into the biggest-selling music on the planet. Bruno Mars and Alicia Keys kept pushing it forward. Neo-soul isn't a throwback — it's soul music that grew up without losing the feeling.
This library lives in that modern space. Female vocals, acoustic and nylon guitars, electric guitar, pianos, Rhodes, Wurlitzer, percussion, bass, and full drums — arranged with the melodic richness and harmonic sophistication the genre demands. The players understand the pocket. The Rhodes sits behind the vocal, not on top of it. The bass locks to the kick drum with the kind of feel that makes a simple groove sound expensive. Fifteen kits covering the range from stripped-back ballads to mid-tempo pop anthems.
Recorded with warmth as the priority. The Rhodes and Wurlitzer were captured through their original amps — not emulated, not modeled. The vocals sit upfront with natural room ambience and no auto-tune. The acoustic guitars were close-mic'd for intimacy. Every stem arrives polished but not sterile — there's air in the mix, space between the instruments, and enough warmth in the low end to feel like a finished record before you touch the EQ.

Do I need Kontakt to use this library?
No. Kontakt is completely optional. All libraries include standard WAV files that work in any DAW without additional software. If a Kontakt Engine version is included, it requires the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt (5.6.5 or higher) and will not run in the free Kontakt Player.

Are these playable instruments, or can I play them on a MIDI keyboard?
These are performance-based loops and phrases played by real musicians — not multi-sampled instruments where you play individual notes. The Kontakt Engine Edition is phrase-based: you arrange and edit authentic recorded performances rather than playing free melodies or chords from a MIDI keyboard. If you're after a playable instrument for live improvisation, these libraries aren't built for that.
