The Story
Big band drumming is the art of swinging twelve other musicians at once. The drummer doesn't just keep time — they steer the entire arrangement. Buddy Rich, Art Blakey, Gene Krupa — they led from behind the kit. The ride cymbal pattern is the pulse. The hi-hat on two and four is the anchor. The kick drum and snare accents mark the hits and the shots that make a horn arrangement come alive. Without the drummer, a big band is just a lot of brass making noise.
This kit swings hard. The grooves ride on the cymbal patterns — a driving, shimmering ride that propels the band forward with relentless energy. The snare accents hit the horn shots with precision. The kick drum marks the arrangement figures while keeping the four-on-the-floor pulse steady underneath. The fills build into big ensemble moments with a dramatic intensity that earns every hit.
Recorded with a jazz approach — overheads as the primary sound, close mics for detail. The ride cymbal is featured prominently, captured with its full wash, bell tone, and stick definition. The snare has a bright, cutting crack for the shots and a warm, brushed tone for the soft sections. The kick is tuned round and warm — more boom than click. The kit was captured as a complete instrument, balanced to sit right in the center of a horn section.

Do I need Kontakt to use this library?
No. Kontakt is completely optional. All libraries include standard WAV files that work in any DAW without additional software. If a Kontakt Engine version is included, it requires the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt (5.6.5 or higher) and will not run in the free Kontakt Player.
Will this work in my DAW?
Yes. All We Sound Human products work in every major DAW using standard audio files.
This includes Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Pro Tools, FL Studio, Cubase, Studio One, GarageBand, Reaper, and more.
If your DAW can play audio, these sounds will work.
Are these playable instruments, or can I play them on a MIDI keyboard?
These are performance-based loops and phrases played by real musicians — not multi-sampled instruments where you play individual notes. The Kontakt Engine Edition is phrase-based: you arrange and edit authentic recorded performances rather than playing free melodies or chords from a MIDI keyboard. If you're after a playable instrument for live improvisation, these libraries aren't built for that.
