The Story
Surf rock is the only genre defined by an effect pedal. Dick Dale plugged a Stratocaster into a Fender Reverb tank in the early '60s and the sound of the ocean came out of the speaker. That spring reverb — wet, dripping, and slightly dangerous — became the DNA of an entire movement. The Beach Boys softened it into pop. The Ventures turned it into instrumentals that sold millions. Los Straitjackets brought it back decades later with masks on and the reverb cranked past sanity. The sound has never gone away because reverb-drenched guitar is one of the most instantly recognizable textures in music.
This library is built on that tone. Reverb-soaked electric guitars, tremolo, vibes, theremin, Rhodes, and drums — the full surf toolkit recorded with the intensity the genre demands. The arrangements range from the sunny, uptempo energy of early Beach Boys to the dark, aggressive instrumental attacks of modern surf revival. Every kit was built around the guitar's relationship with reverb, tremolo, and vibrato — the three effects that make surf sound like surf.
The signature sound starts at the amp. The guitars were tracked through real Fender spring reverb units — not plug-in emulations. The tremolo and vibrato are from the amp's built-in circuits, not added in post. That matters because a spring reverb reacts to the dynamics of the playing in a way that digital reverb doesn't — hit a string harder and the springs rattle differently. The drums were recorded dry and tight to contrast with the wet guitars, giving you the classic surf production balance. Every stem preserves that analog reverb character from the source.

Do I need Kontakt to use this library?
No. Kontakt is completely optional. All libraries include standard WAV files that work in any DAW without additional software. If a Kontakt Engine version is included, it requires the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt (5.6.5 or higher) and will not run in the free Kontakt Player.
Will this work in my DAW?
Yes. All We Sound Human products work in every major DAW using standard audio files.
This includes Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Pro Tools, FL Studio, Cubase, Studio One, GarageBand, Reaper, and more.

Are these playable instruments, or can I play them on a MIDI keyboard?
These are performance-based loops and phrases played by real musicians — not multi-sampled instruments where you play individual notes. The Kontakt Engine Edition is phrase-based: you arrange and edit authentic recorded performances rather than playing free melodies or chords from a MIDI keyboard. If you're after a playable instrument for live improvisation, these libraries aren't built for that.
